Calling all Dad's!

  It has been my experience that dad's are becoming much more active in the day-to-day parenting role and that's a good thing.  Kids need their dads.  Dad's are taking on more of the parenting responsibilities.  This is true for both married and divorced dad's.  Indy Parent Help is devoted to  helping dad's in their ever-expanding role as it pertains to the lives of their children.  It's about sustaining a connected relationship.  I know a little bit about dads.  I'm married to a dad, we have four sons and a son-in-law who are dad's.  Have a concern?

Daddy! How much money do you make an hour? 

Dad worked late hours most of the work week and his 8 year old son, Billy, was usually asleep by the time he got home.  One day Billy waited up way past his bedtime to see his dad.  When his dad came home, Billy jumped in his arms and said "Dad, how much money do you make an hour?"  The dad answered gruffly "That's none of your business!  Now go to your room."  Billy hung his head down and sauntered off to his room.  The dad was feeling pretty crummy about how he spoke to his son so he went to Billy's room,apologzed to Billy for speaking so harshly and said "I make $50.00 an hour."  As the dad was about to walk out of the room Billy asked "Dad, can I borrow $25.00 from you?"  Again the dad got quite angry-thinking Billy was taking advantage of him and shouted "What do you want $25.00 for?"   Billy reached behind his pillow, pulled out $25.00 he had saved and told his dad "If you'll loan me $25.00 - I'll have $50.00 and I can buy an hour of your time!" 

Moral:  Your time is priceless to your child!  It will become your greatest investment.

Have a kid concern?

 I work quite a bit with divorced dad's.  One thing I tell them is that the children of divorced parents live in two worlds.  When they're with their mom - they live in mom's world.  When they're with their dad - they live in dad's world.  Your best hope for raising a child to feel connected to you, is to help them understand where they fit in. When they are with you, you are available to them;  you pay close attention to their hurts; you allow them to express themselves without recrimination and to communicate to them without coercion.  Check out my services and see if there isn't something that Indy Parent Help can help you with.
